ATTENTION ON DECK !!
It's time to register for the June 2012 Reunion.Cutoff is 7 April and will be here before you know it. Only 12 Registered so far and I will need 30 at minumum.
Marines,
I'm pleased to announce that I finally got a contract with a hotel that should not break our budgets for a week of fun, friendship and remembrance. I'm sorry it took so long to get this far but it's difficult to deal with the Washington, DC area on any level. I really tried to get something around the Arlington Cemetery area, so it would be within walking distance for the Sunset Parade and thus eliminate the need for another bus, but it was not to be. Weekend room prices were not bad but soared $40-$60 a day during the week plus the 9-12% taxes they all charge. All charged between $300-$1000 a day for meeting and banquet space with some adding an additional $10-$20 a day for parking.
I believe the Washington Suites Alexandria Hotel will serve us well. The $129 daily room rate is very reasonable compared to the many hotels I looked at, including most of the well known chains. We will have meeting and banquet space available, as well as a hospitality room, at no charge, as long as we book between 10 and 20 rooms per night. So, I would encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and book with this hotel. The rooms that are in the deal are two bedroom suites approximately 480 sq ft each with living room, full kitchen and bathroom. They will be great for personal visits with your buddies.
The hotel has a shuttle that will take you to and from the Van Dorn Metro Train Station and anywhere else within a mile or so of the hotel. I believe the Landmark Mall is a couple blocks away. What is Metro? Metro is a convenient and stress-free way to get around the Washington, DC metropolitan area. You can explore the city and its Virginia and Maryland suburbs without the hassles of traffic and parking or the expense of gas. Whether you are flying into one of the region's three major airports or riding the rails of Amtrak into Union Station, getting to the Metro bus and rail systems from these transportation hubs is easy. Arriving by car? Follow the simple driving directions for Metro stations near major highways. The Van Dorn Station is on the BLUE LINE, which is on the route to Washington National Airport Station (about 5 miles away), Arlington Cemetery Station (about 6 miles away) and the Eastern Market Station (about 12 miles) near the Marine Barracks at 8th & I ( two blocks down from station).
I'll be sending out additional information as it's finalized and posting it on our website at www.usmchawkassociation.com so keep checking back regularly. Looking forward to seeing my old buddies from B Btry 2nd LAAMs, seeing those I met at the Yuma and Branson reunions and meeting some new ones. God Bless, stay healthy , continue praying and supporting our men and women in harms way.
Semper Fidelis
